LINX COMMUNICATIONS LAUNCHES UNIFIED COMMUNICATION SERVICE IN BAY AREA

Installation of California Switch Expands Linx National Network

San Francisco, CA - March 3, 1999 - Linx Communications, a leading provider of unified communications services, announced today the launch of its Universal Number service in the San Francisco Bay Area, expanding the Company's local reach to the West Coast. Linx service is already available in major metropolitan areas in the northeast through switches in Boston and Washington, DC.

Linx signature service, Universal Number, is a revolutionary service that provides users with a single phone number to integrate voice, message and fax communications. When a caller dials a user's Universal Number, the system rings up to three specified numbers simultaneously and announces the caller. The user can choose to take the call, send it to voice mail, or even transfer the call to a colleague. With only one number as the point of access, Universal Number makes it easy for important clients and contacts to stay in touch while allowing the user to take only necessary calls.

According to an AT&T study, fewer than 26% of all calls reach their intended party. "Today, mobile professionals and virtual office workers face a daunting task of trying to stay in touch with important clients and contacts. With the Linx Universal Number, over 80% of all calls get connected. That's a substantial increase in connectivity," explains Joe Gately, President of Linx Communications. "Universal Number eliminates the need to provide clients and other contacts with multiple phone numbers, thereby eliminating confusion and frustration for both the caller and the Universal Number user."

A unique feature of the Linx Universal Number service is its local number access. By installing state-of-the-art switches in major cities throughout the country, Linx is providing access to calls and messages via the phone or Internet through local numbers. Gately stated, "We are giving users local number access to their calls and messages from various locations around the country, much the way many national Internet Service Providers offer local access to their networks. Our expansion into the Bay Area not only makes our service available to new users in that region but expands the capabilities for existing users of our Northeast services who travel to California."

LinxView Web Interface Available with Universal Number Service
The San Francisco launch will also include LinxView, the Company's new web interface announced in February 1999. LinxView is an Internet-based personal communications manager that allows end-users to manage calls and messages from their PCs. A free feature of the Linx Universal Number service, LinxView transforms the computer screen into a virtual communications center. With the click of a mouse, users can listen to voicemail messages, place calls, view and print faxes, manage speed dial lists, and change telephone numbers and availability. In addition, LinxView enables users to send voice and fax messages as e-mail attachments to any Internet-based e-mail address.

National Linx Network
The San Francisco launch is just one step in the Company's plan to build a national Linx network. While Linx headquarters will remain in the Boston area, local switches are being deployed in all major U.S. markets. The Linx switches will be linked together with a private fiber optic network providing local number access to the system from various locations.
In addition to its San Francisco office and its Boston headquarters, Linx has an office in Washington, DC, where the Company launched its Universal Number service in November 1998. The Company plans to install switches in 15 additional cities in 1999, including New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.

The San Francisco Bay Area is an ideal market in which to expand the Linx Universal Number service because of the large number of high technology businesses, telecommuters and mobile professionals located there. In addition, the Company already has a major corporate customer in Santa Clara, 3Com.

In addition to 3Com, Linx corporate customers include America Online, Apple Computer, Compaq, Coopers & Lybrand, EMC, Ernst & Young, and IBM. The Company also has individual subscribers throughout the Boston metropolitan and Washington, DC areas.
