LINX COMMUNICATIONS SECURES $4 MILLION TO SUPPORT BUILD OUT OF NATION'S FIRST LOCAL ACCESS UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK

New funding adds to $5 million in venture capital raised by leading Communications Service Provider

Newton, MA - March 2, 1999 - Linx Communications, a leading provider of unified communications services, announced today that it has secured an aggregate $4 million line of credit from Silicon Valley Bank and LTI Ventures Leasing. Linx will use the new funding to accelerate deployment of a nationwide network for business class unified communication services, including the nation's first local access one number service. Modeled after Internet Service Provider (ISP) networks which offer Internet access around the country, Linx is leading a new class of Communications Service Providers (CSP) by offering local access to its national network of unified communication services.

Linx Communications provides straightforward services that change the way people communicate by allowing them access to their voice and fax messages from any telephone or Internet connection. Linx' signature service, Universal Number, is a single local or toll free number that unites all of a "user's" communications devices, including business and home phone, fax, cellular phone, and pager, under a single number. This one number simultaneously rings up to three phones and enables users to screen and route calls simply and efficiently by allowing them to take the calls they need, while sending others to voice mail or a more appropriate colleague. All Linx services are offered on a monthly subscription basis, increasing customer flexibility and eliminating up front inves™ent costs.

According to William MacDonald, Senior Vice President of LTI Ventures Leasing, "Linx is pursuing a unique business strategy in deploying advanced telecommunications switching technology around the country. We are pleased to be able to extend a line of credit that will help enable them to meet their business goals."

"The explosive growth in telecommunications technology has given mobile workers more tools to communicate, but with the proliferation of these tools, communication and control have become more complicated," stated Linx founder and CEO Joe Gately. "At Linx, we are addressing the complexity of today's telecommunications marketplace by giving business users simple solutions that integrate seamlessly with the phone systems they are currently using."

Gately continued, "Our services offer customized solutions for business users, ranging from the enterprise to the entrepreneur. While we currently offer nationwide coverage from our network infrastructure in Boston, Washington, DC and San Francisco, our new financing will widen our first-mover advantage by allowing us to accelerate the deployment of local access points in 15 major cities, including New York, Chicago and Atlanta, within the next year."

"This is an exciting time for Linx as they expand their services into other markets," states David Fischer, Executive Vice President of Silicon Valley Bank, "We obviously believe in their concept of providing enhanced communication services on a local basis and feel strongly that our commi™ent will allow Linx to emerge as the standard for unified communication solutions."

In October, the company announced that it had secured $5.1 million in venture funding from Advanced Technology Ventures and OneLiberty Ventures.

Linx' services are already in use by leading enterprise customers such as 3Com, EMC and Apple Computer. These organizations have integrated Linx' services within their existing telecommunications infrastructure - adding advanced functionality without requiring a new layer of administration.
