3COM STREAMLINES BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS
WITH LINX COMMUNICATIONS' UNIVERSAL NUMBER
3COM Employees Across U.S. Use Linx Service to Simplify Voice, Messaging and Fax Communications
Newton, MA - March 18, 1999 - Linx Communications, a leading Communications Service Provider (CSP), today announced that Santa Clara-based 3Com Corporation is dramatically streamlining its business communications using Linx Universal Number( service. Linx Universal Number is a revolutionary service that simplifies and streamlines voice, fax and other communications services for on-the-go 3Com professionals, saving time and money while eliminating the frustrations associated with "telephone tag".
3Com employees in sales, marketing and other deparents nationwide are using Linx services to better manage their voice, messaging and fax communications. In the coming months, 3Com anticipates continued roll-out of Linx Universal Number services to employees throughout its corporate headquarters in California as well as other U.S. regional offices.
Robin Bennett, Global Voice Processing Strategist at 3Com, explained, "I manage a large network and also a large family. With colleagues in different time zones and countries, and with my need to be in various places, it was difficult for people to reach me all the time. I was missing lots of calls and my callers were frustrated. Universal Number service has given me so much flexibility: I am available for emergencies, no matter where I am. It has greatly increased my mobility and, consequently, my customers, coworkers, management and even my family are satisfied. I can easily take the immediate and important calls, and leave the others for a less hectic time. I cannot imagine not having it."
Universal Number provides 3Com employees with a single, local phone number that cost-effectively integrates voice, messaging and fax communications. When a caller dials a 3Com user's Universal Number, the system rings up to three specified numbers simultaneously and announces the caller. The 3Com employee can choose to take the call, send it to voice mail, or even transfer it to a colleague.
Universal Number also includes a conference calling capability and integrates with 3Com's corporate voice mail system so that employees need only check one voice mailbox for all their messages. Brian D. Johnson, senior public relations manager for 3Com, stated, "The conference calling feature of Universal Number has greatly increased our employees' productivity. With Universal Number, it takes half the time it used to for me to set up a conference call with my co-workers."
Johnson continued, "Universal Number gives me the power to be reached by clients, staff and the media as well as reach out to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With Universal Number, I have created a virtual office that I can step into quite easily, no matter where I am. At 3Com, we take pride in providing and using the very best technology to improve our communications. Universal Number has become an essential piece of our communications system."
Universal Number requires no hardware or software on the customer premises, eliminating the need for expensive telecommunications equipment purchases and maintenance resources. The Linx system integrates with 3Com's internal A network and is accessible via both local and toll free numbers. Bennett commented, "With Universal Number service, we can provide our employees and their customers with all the benefits of a one number service without the aggravation of administration, service and maintenance of telecommunications hardware."
Joe Gately, president and CEO of Linx, stated, "We are pleased to be working with a forward-thinking company like 3Com. With more than 15,000 employees worldwide, 3Com's workforce is very mobile and many work outside the traditional office, making the company an excellent showcase for our services. We look forward to continuing to work with 3Com as we roll out enhanced features and capabilities for our leading edge communications services."
With the installation this month of a San Francisco switch, Linx is expanding its local number services in the Bay Area, making its local access services even more accessible to Bay Area subscribers. Linx offers the only unified communications service accessible through local numbers in multiple cities across the U.S. In addition to the Bay Area, Linx services are currently available to local subscribers in Boston, New York and Washington, DC, and will expand to 15 additional cities in 1999, including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.
