LINX EXPANDS FOCUS ON KEY MARKET SEGMENTS

Mobility, SOHO and Carrier Market Segments To Address Increased Demand for Unified Communications Services

Newton, Mass. - May 15, 2000 -Linx Communications, Inc., a leading communications Application Service Provider (ASP) delivering unified communications and messaging services to businesses and individuals, today announced that it has expanded the size and scope of its marketing team. This expansion is in response to the growing demand for Linx' unified communications services among users in these key market segments:

  • Mobility (mobile professional, telecommuter)
  • SOHO (small office/home office), and
  • Carrier (CLECs, ISPs, value-added resellers, other service providers).

Linx' market segments include or serve people with unique and dynamic communications needs because they are often away from the office and spend much time on the road, telecommuting or in remote offices. Because Linx' services can link cell phones, office phones, home phones, pagers and faxes, busy professionals are more in control of their incoming phone calls and messages and can easily keep in touch with clients, customers, prospects and business associates.

Linx' new market segment initiatives are under the direction of Paul Jermain, Linx' new director of market management and segment manager for the Carrier segment. Reporting to Jermain is Ron Weinberg, segment manager for the SOHO segment, and Kim Gifford, marketing specialist for the Mobility segment.

"We are proud to welcome everyone to their new positions on the Linx team. Linx' services give our subscribers total assurance that they will never miss a call. Linx' new marketing organizational structure will sharpen our focus and vision on these new segments," said Jeff Schlueter, vice president of marketing and product development. "Growing our staff with such talented and experienced individuals who truly understand these segments further strengthens our value to the industry and to our customers. We look forward to continued successes in these markets."

A resident of Manchester, Mass., Jermain is responsible for managing the overall development and execution of marketing programs across all segments as well as developing programs for the Carrier segment. Jermain joins Linx from Norstar, a division of Nortel that manufactures and sells small business phone systems, where he was senior manager of global marketing, responsible for strategic planning and program activities for new Nortel Networks solutions.

A resident of Nashua, NH, Weinberg is focused on developing marketing programs for the SOHO segment. Prior to Linx, Weinberg was business development manager at Bizfon, where he was responsible for creating strategic partnerships, developing distribution channel strategies and plans, and selling telecom products into the SOHO market.

A resident of Brighton, Mass., Gifford is responsible for developing and implementing programs to sell to the Mobility market segment including working with external suppliers and channel partners. Gifford was previously Linx' marketing specialist serving as a liaison to the sales and support departments where she developed and managed a sales lead and marketing database, channel programs, competitive research analysis and e-mail marketing programs.

Linx Services
As an ASP, Linx offers outsourced communications and messaging services to individuals, small businesses and corporations. This enables companies to take advantage of the most advanced messaging solutions without incurring the capital costs of maintaining internal systems and equipment. Linx markets a suite of easy-to-use, "pay-as-you-go" web-enabled communications services that give on-the-go people complete control over their phone calls, faxes and messages at any time, from any location. Linx services save time and money while eliminating the frustration of "telephone tag."

LinxConnectTM, Linx' flagship service, is a powerful, web-enabled one-number service that streamlines multiple communications tools (voice, wireless, messaging, fax) into a single local or toll-free number. By combining disparate devices into a single number, LinxConnect makes users more reachable and accessible while allowing them to better prioritize important calls and messages. LinxConnect features LinxWebTM, a robust personal communications web portal that allows users to listen to voice messages, view faxes, manage communications, and initiate real-time call connection via the web.

Linx also offers an ideal solution for service providers' business customers with growing communications needs. LinxOfficeTM is a powerful "virtual office phone system," pay-as-you-go service that can be customized to meet a company's specific communications requirements. With LinxOffice, businesses enjoy the benefits of a comprehensive office phone system, without the hardware and maintenance costs typically associated with a PBX system.

Linx' national network currently includes local points of presence (POPs) in Boston, Los Angeles, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. Linx is expanding its POPs with plans to cover the top thirty major metropolitan areas this year. Linx services can be ordered by calling 888-FOR-LINX or by visiting www.linxcom.com.
